It's been way too long

So I admit I have been slacking at updating this blog. I think it is because I had a writing class this semester, and I was writing so much that the thought of writing for fun just wasn't fun anymore. But don't worry...I am now officially done with that class as of today!!

Let me catch you up on what's been going on. Since I last posted, I have done 2 breakfasts, 1 meet & Greet, 3 opening nights, 1 play preview & dinner, and of course 2 dinners from the dinner series. The dinner series is like my baby, because it's what I work on the most, and what I work the hardest on. The other events run like clockwork...but these dinners give me a chance to be creative and come up with new things to try. And my boss, is so awesome for letting me take charge of them.

Dinner #2 was at a place called Hi Hat Ranch. It was by far the most work. We had a bbq caterer, but I had to do so much self catering to go along with that. We had to buy all the appetizers, desserts, beer, wine, liquor, etc. I even had to rent a van and transport tables and chairs out to the ranch. And the ranch was 4 miles from civilization, and another 4 down a bumpy dirt road! I drove that road at least 10 times. All of the donors loved it though. They like the dinners in general because doing them at different locations allows for variety among scenery and allows different people to attend each time! We had a really good turn out, with a lot of our important VIPs. We even had a few new people that we are hoping to bring into the theatre. After the event was over that night, I was so excited because the chair of the event told everyone I was the best thing to happen to the Asolo since my boss was first hired!! How cool is that?!!

Dinner #3 was this past Thursday night, at the private home of the doctor that owns all of the Center for Sights in Sarasota County. His home was gorgeous. It was right on Siesta Key...it was hugeeee. We used his personal caterer, and the food was so pretentious I didn't even enjoy it. But thats okay, because again... the donors loved it!

The theme was Shakespeare because of our upcoming production of The Winter's Tale. I put together gifts for each dinner for the guests to take home, so this time I bought different Shakespeare plays and wrapped them elegantly. The whole night went really well. I will post pics soon!

Bye for now

I'm working on my birthday!! (GASP)

If anyone knows me, they KNOW I have never worked on my birthday.....EVER! This year is different. There is so much work to be done at the office and I have a staff meeting that I don't wanna miss.

Did I just say I don't want to miss a staff meeting??

I don't know, its weird. Its like, I am sad to not be a kid anymore with birthday parties and fun...but I think I am just seeing it in a new light now. And since I am ultimately enjoying the work that I do now...a birthday in the office won't be bad at all.

So I know that I haven't posted in awhile, super busyyyy. I am still working on the first dinner at Bay Preserve. We are getting RSVP's in everyday. It is harder this year I have noticed. The tickets are $200/person or $900 for all 6 dinners in the series....and some people are like "oh wow, well we won't be attending at that price." Obviously that's understandable...it's not like I can go out and buy $200 tickets to sit at a dinner just to converse with Sarasota's A list (because I get it for free!). Butttt, all I am saying is last year, people were more receptive to the prices.

Last year people had money I suppose.

But yeah, even I admit that is a little pricey for a dinner. Our annual Gala tickets last year were $250/person....and that was a reallyyyyy nice Gala. This is just an average dinner...and I'm not even sure on the entertainment yet!! I am also working on putting together a nice gift bag for the guests. They can't be too nice of gifts since we are a non-profit after all...

Today I had to be in the office at 6:30 am! We had a breakfast for the Economic Development Council of Sarasota (AKA...a bunch of professional, important business people). We had so much food left over. I wish I could have taken it to a shelter or something. Maybe I will look into that for the future.

So besides my birthday, the only other thing on the agenda for this week is an on-site walk through on wednesday for our 2nd dinner in the series.

Oh no it's after midnight now...I am 23. =(

Welcome to my office!

It's official! My desk has arrived and is being moved into my office!! yayyy. I don't have to sit at the interns desk anymore. And I am really weirdly obsessed with office supplies ...

Let's see.....Opening night of the first play of the season is October 24, the night before the Bay Preserve Dinner. Busy weekend that will be. Check out the play - http://www.asolo.org/Plays/TheGiver/tabid/334/Default.aspx

My favorite thing about Opening Nights are the dinners. OMG best food ever. It's always catered by Michaels On East (http://www.michaelsoneast.com/), and they always do the best presentations.

And so it begins...

So as most of you know, I was offered a position from the Asolo Theatre (which is where I have interned for a year now) to do Event Planning/Logistics. I have been so excited all summer waiting for this and now I am finally starting!!

We have sooooo much going on this year. There are by far, wayyyy more events than last year. So I will tell you about the first thing I am in charge of. We have this Dinner Series which will consist of 6 dinners at various locations around the Sarasota area. Basically we went through our VIP list and picked out people who we wanted to invite to this. Some people get invites to all the dinners (which means they are super important....OR we just get a ton of money from them!!), but some people only get invited to one or two dinners.

So this first dinner is Oct. 25. It is going to be held at Bay Preserve in Osprey. This is the name of the land that is owned by this environmental organization called the Sarasota Conservation Foundation (http://www.sarasotaconservation.org/). It's actually pretty neat, it protects Sarasota County's beaches and bays...etc.

Anyway, this land was picked by the chair of the dinner series. She picked all of the locations for all of the dinners actually. But the house that is on the property is going to be under construction at the time of the dinner, so there are some major issues with the restrooms. We have to rent a deluxe portable restroom.

I am sure it will probably all work out fine. I have to get together "old people" music, as the chair of the event put it. She then proceeded to say that all this crap that kids listen to these days is horrible...and then she weirdly began to rap something I couldn't understand... Haha you have to understand that she is this veryyyy southern accented but proper older woman. So this coming from her was hysterical.

She then went on to say I probably listen to all of that.

Hahahahaha.

So after the walk-through we had, I am feeling very pressured and excited at the same time. I feel like everyone thinks I am just this young college kid who doesn't know anything. Well, I mean, they wouldn't have given me the job if they thought I didn't know anything...but I am definitely going to have to prove myself with this first event.
